Introduction
After over 30 years of Pokémon history, Game Freak ushers in a new era with Pokémon Waves. As the first exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch 2, this tenth-generation title sets new standards and proves that the beloved franchise is far from reaching the end of its creative possibilities.

New Generation, New Horizons
Pokémon Waves takes us to the breathtaking Aqua Region, an archipelago of hundreds of islands connected by crystal-clear ocean currents. The maritime theme permeates the entire game, giving it a unique atmosphere that clearly distinguishes it from previous editions.
The newly introduced tenth-generation Pokémon are impressively designed throughout. Particularly the new Water-, Wind-, and Electric-types blend seamlessly into the oceanic setting without appearing clichéd. The starter trio consisting of the Water-type Aquavolt, the Flying-type Breezel, and the Grass-type Corallion already demonstrates the creative direction Game Freak is taking with this generation.

Gameplay Evolution
The battle system receives a revolutionary expansion with "Tide Moves." These special attacks not only temporarily change the battlefield but also influence subsequent turns of all participating Pokémon. The strategic depth this creates is remarkable and makes even simple trainer battles into tactical challenges.
Traversal through the Aqua Region primarily occurs via the new "Wave Riding" system. Players can glide through currents on special Pokémon, with various routes and speeds possible. This mechanic feels intuitive and makes exploring the game world a true pleasure.

Technical Masterpiece
The Nintendo Switch 2 shows its full strength here. The water effects are simply spectacular - from gently lapping waves to raging storms, every aspect of the sea is rendered photorealistically. Pokémon animations reach a new quality level, with interactions between different species in water being particularly impressive.
Loading times are practically non-existent, which benefits the seamless transition between different islands. The dynamic music composition intelligently adapts to the current situation and significantly enhances the immersive experience.

Story and Characters
The main story surrounding the mysterious "Tide Crystals" is more mature and complex than in previous editions. Without spoiling too much: Game Freak ventures into environmental political themes and manages to convey them in a child-friendly but not simplified manner.
Character development of the protagonist and supporting characters is significantly more pronounced. Particularly rival Marina and the mysterious Professor Coral remain memorable for a long time and motivate players to follow their stories to the end.

Multiplayer and Social Features
The revamped online system allows up to 12 friends to play simultaneously on the same island. The new "Tide Battles" - 3v3 battles with changing environmental conditions - offer a fresh alternative to classic duels.
The integration of social features is successful without being intrusive. The "Island Sharing" feature, where players can share their custom-designed islands, encourages community creativity.

Conclusion
Pokémon Waves is more than just a new game in an established series - it's a statement. Game Freak proves that innovation and tradition can go hand in hand. The technical capabilities of the Switch 2 are fully utilized without losing the soul of Pokémon games.
Despite minor weaknesses in endgame balance and occasional framerate drops during particularly complex scenes, Pokémon Waves sets new standards for the entire franchise. Fans of all ages will find what they're looking for here - whether newcomers or veterans from the very beginning.

Community Feedback
Hmm, bin etwas zwiegespalten.
