Physint Moves to Xbox Without a Confirmed Delay

Sony steps away and Xbox takes over publishing: Physint continues, but its release, platforms, and possible production cuts remain uncertain.

Physint has lost its original publisher—but, based on everything confirmed so far, it has not lost its development momentum. Sony Interactive Entertainment withdrew from the action-espionage project developed by Kojima Productions in June 2026. After a search lasting roughly three months, Xbox Game Studios is taking over publication. Reports and the available statements describe production as ongoing and unaffected by the change. No release date or specific platforms have been announced. There is therefore currently no confirmed evidence of a delay.

The speed of the switch is notable from an industry perspective. A publisher leaving during development can seriously affect an independent studio because financing, approvals, and milestone payments are usually tied to the publishing agreement. Even clarifying responsibilities and payment schedules can consume valuable time. Without a replacement, review cycles, staffing decisions, or a longer interruption can follow. Kojima Productions finding a new partner after about three months points to a surprisingly stable handover. Xbox is not an random emergency helper: its partnership with Kojima Productions already extends beyond OD. That existing relationship may indicate confidence in the team and project, but it does not replace concrete production data.

The question of possible cuts therefore remains open. Individual reports cite budget concerns and missed deadlines as context for Sony's withdrawal, but reliable details about the budget, team size, or reduced game scope have not been provided. A project can continue while being quietly adjusted in certain areas. Likewise, the statement that development is unaffected does not prove that nothing has changed internally. It only contradicts the stronger claim that the publisher switch has demonstrably set Physint back. Reports and confirmed facts need to be kept separate here.

The most technically sensitive issue concerns Sony's Decima engine. Physint was presented during a PlayStation State of Play in January 2024 and was originally closely associated with Sony. Reports suggest that Kojima Productions may no longer be allowed to use Decima. That technical consequence has not been confirmed. An actual engine change would be significant: tools, workflows, optimization, and gameplay systems would all need to be realigned. Until there is official information, this scenario also remains speculation.

For the nerd community, the situation therefore looks less like a restart than a risky handover that has so far succeeded. Bringing in Xbox is a strong signal of stability, but not a release promise. Real clarity will come only through a date, platform information, new gameplay, or reliable technical details. Until then, the publisher change is worth watching—but it should not automatically be translated into expectations of further delays.
